How a gate valve works
Open, throttled, shut.
Turning the hand wheel raises the wedge clear of the bore. Fully open, the valve gives an unobstructed path; seated, it shuts the line off. The diagram is a simplified outline of the parts listed in the catalogue — body, bonnet, stem, wedge and hand wheel.
